Criteria Amsterdam Fringe Festival
Criteria for application Amsterdam Fringe Festival
The Amsterdam Fringe Festival has an open application procedure where the following application criteria apply:
IN GENERAL:
The festival organisation takes care of the covering publicity, the festival frame, the workshops and coaching in the realisation of the implementation. The basic assumption is that the groups and locations work on a return base. All performance prices will be adjusted and consist of set entrance prices and deduction prices (for students and fringe routes)
APPLICATION:
Groups/Artists can apply for the Amsterdam Fringe Festival via the online application form, which must be fully completed. Applications will be accepted from the 12th of February till the 12th of March. Additional information and materials can be send to the AFF till the 12th of March (see application form). Materials that have been send in can’t be send back. When groups/artists are admitted they will receive an information pack and a list of questions. The deadline of these documents is the 10th of May.
PARTICIPATION:
The Amsterdam Fringe Festival focuses on the following disciplines: performance, dance, multi media, live art, theatre and music theatre. The organisation doesn’t set quality-determined guidelines and therefore is not responsible for the artistic quality of the particular performances within the Fringe. The organisation has the right to aspire a programme which represents the offer of Dutch, Flemish and international theatre, and that reflects the wide diversity of theatre in the margin of established theatre. Preference goes out to groups/artists that don’t receive structural grants.
FINANCIAL:
Participating in the Fringe is at own risk. The financial negotiations will be made separately, but in principle everybody will get 80% of the ticket sales. The festival will not provide for overnight lodging, meals or technical and production support. The application fee for the AFF (when admitted to the Fringe) is €100,-.
PUBLICITY:
It is required from the participating groups, to take the responsibility in getting audiences, to actively promote there performance and to energetically try to get noticed.
LOCATION:
The Fringe is meant for productions that are performed in alternative locations (inside and outside) in Amsterdam and productions that are performed in smaller locations with a max. capacity of 300 visitors. The AFF encourages groups/artists to apply with a alternative location in Amsterdam. Groups/artists can give a preference of one of the regular Fringe locations. A fitting location will then be found together with the festival organisation.
PRODUCTION:
Other than some other festivals, participating in the AFF doesn’t mean that we will produce your performance. The AFF produces the festival and presents your performance. The production of your performance is your responsibility. This requires more than just the artistic development of the performance but also requires responsibility for the production and the publicity. The groups/artist and the locations must be have required safety regulations. The festival can’t be held responsible for this matter.
NUMBER OF PERFORMANCES:
Performances will ideally premier during the Amsterdam Fringe Festival and will be performed 3 or more days during the festival. In principle The Amsterdam Fringe Festival doesn’t accept performances that are performed in the months July, August, September or October in or around Amsterdam.
DURATION PERFORMANCE AND TECHNICAL SPECIFICATIONS:
De maximum duration of a performance is 60 minutes. The AFF programmes various performances at a location on the same night. Be aware that you have a short preparation time and that extensive stage settings and technical plans are not an option in the AFF.
WORKSHOPS AND INTERNATIONAL COACH:
After the announcement of the performances, that will be a part of the AFF 2010, an invitation for the Fringe Workshops will be send to the participating groups/artists. These workshops are aimed at the following features: finances/business matters, publicity, performance sales and internationalisation. Every year an international coach is appointed, that hosts a workshop for the groups/artists, is a part of the Fringe Jury and is there to answer questions. These workshops are aimed at the groups/artists which can help to realise a successful process in the Amsterdam Fringe Festival and therefore are obligatory. Non-attendance can mean exclusion from the festival.
SNEAKPREVIEWS:
A Sneak Preview is a short live ‘trailer’ of max. 3 minutes of your performance. A Sneak Preview gives the audience an impression of your performance. The Sneak Previews will take place before the festival (for example Uitmarkt), during the opening of the Fringe and during the festival. We ask of participants to create a sneak of the performance and only with the right reasons a exclusion from the Sneak Shows will be accepted.
PROCEDURE:
From the 6th of April there will be three different outcomes in the application process: accepted, waiting list and denied. Those who receive the outcome: waiting list, are considered as an alternative if performances are cancelled etc. There won’t be any correspondence about the outcome of the application process before this date.
Disclaimer The AFF reserves the right to deny performances, without listing the motives. Enrolment will be cancelled if, in the opinion of the AFF, a registered participator has given incomplete or incorrect information or has acted against rules and regulations. AFF can not be held responsible for any damage caused by the use of sent-in personal application data. Registered participant and group data will be stored in an electronic file. Contents of this file will be used to organise the Amsterdam Fringe Festival. Groups/artists that have applied successfully and have acknowledged and agreed with the AFF criteria, will be expected to follow trough with their performance.
The AFF is a part of the Dutch Theatre Festival (het Nederlands Theater Festival).
Dear utopists, darwinists, former bankers, believers, anarchists, romans, countrymen,
From September 2-12 the fifth edition of the Amsterdam Fringe Festival will once again raise the rooftops in Amsterdam. An adventurous mix of theatrical anarchy and creative explosions, where events will be held in clubs and theaters, as well as on the streets and in living rooms. In the past three years the Fringe’s open registration policy has provided a turbulent cultural collage of exciting classical, experimental and innovative productions. This year will be even more challenging - as the Fringe is broadening its horizons for the second time and looks over the boarders to welcome the international Fringer that would like to flabbergast Amsterdam audiences. The application for the Amsterdam Fringe can be found at www.amsterdamfringefestival.nl and is online from Februari 12th- March 12th. On our website you'll find the criteria for applications for the Fringe 2010.
What's the Amsterdam Fringe?
The Fringe offers a stimulating environment for artists where there is room for creative encounters, cross-pollination and stimulation of artistic innovation without a jury. The Fringe wants to invite the public to join the participating artists on this adventure. The Amsterdam Fringe Festival distinguishes itself from other theater festivals with an open registration policy and from contemporary theater with an informal and accessible context. With that purpose in mind, the Fringe not only opens many doors to Amsterdam’s diverse performance venues (to), creators and groups, but also to a (new and) curious public.
Presentations, performances and acts which distinguish themselves from each other by going against the grain, being raw, political or simply on the cutting edge are welcome. Typically ‘fringe’ is that both the groups as well as the locations actively serve in promoting the performances and the artists. The festival offers support along the way with advice, organisational know-how and general publicity.
